The flight of the first Yakovlev Design Bureau aircraft was in 1927. This year is considered to be the beginning of the history of the biggest design bureau, the emblem of which you can meet all over the world.
Yakovlev Design Bureau machines became the symbol of Soviet army during The Second World War, many Russian musicians wrote songs about these aircrafts. More than 40 000 Yak fighters participated in the battles of The Second World War: Yak-1, Yak-3, strong Yak-7, Yak-9. Yak fighters, which were created due to great experience in the building of light aircrafts, became protectors of Soviet Union’s sky.
The Design Bureau worked not only in the field of war aircrafts. After The Second World War a line of civil aircrafts was created: Yak-8, Yak-12, Yak-16.
From this moment the bureau has started the design of training and war aircrafts. Nowadays, almost every Russian pilot starts his education from Yakovlev Design Bureau machines. During its long history the bureau has created several similar models: Yak-11, Yak-18A, Yak-18T, Yak-30, Yak-32, Yak-50, Yak-52, Yak-54.
In the 50-s Yak-15 became the first Soviet jet aircraft. Furthermore, a huge line of other jet aircrafts was created: Yak-17, Yak-23, Yak-25, Yak-25RB, Yak-27.
What is more, there was design of landing aircrafts and helicopters – Yak-14, Yak-24.
The bureau has been constructing the vertical take-off aircrafts for almost 30 years. The design of Yak-36, Yak-38, Yak-141 became the result of fruitful personnel work.
The Yakovlev Design Bureau also works in the sphere of creation of supersonic aircrafts Yak-28PM, Yak-28U. The Russian army has been using Yak-28 aircrafts for more than 25 years.
Every designer wishes to create a small, fast and comfortable passenger aircraft. Yakovlev was the only one to make this wish come true. As the result, a jet passenger aircraft Yak-40 which was created in 70-s, stays popular till now. From 1000 built aircrafts approximately 500 continue to work with Russian and foreign airlines. Yak-40 is the first Russian aircraft which got a FAR-25 Certificate.
Nowadays the Design Bureau is developing modern aircrafts for different purposes. In 2006 the Yakovlev Design Bureau got a national award «Golden idea» in the nomination «For contribution in the field of development of export-oriented products for war purpose».
For its long history the Yakovlev Design Bureau has produced more than 200 types and modifications of aircrafts, including 100 serial aircrafts. This fact is an illustration of a great contribution of the bureau personnel in Russian and world war aviation.
