History

The building of our plant was started in December 1936. The official date of starting production activity is considered to be 1939.

At first «Progress» repaired aircrafts SB, DB, I-16 and engines M-25, M-85, M-100. The War changed several things, and from 1941 to 1946 UT-2 training aircrafts were produced. During the War the volumes of production were 90 aircrafts a month.

The plant has been cooperating with The Yakovkev Design Bureau for 30 years producing training and sporting aircrafts from Yak-18 in 1948 to Yak-54 in nowadays. For the first 8 years of Yak production till 1956 several thousands of machines were produced. These machines became the main aircrafts for pilot training in air force and aviation clubs. With the help of Yak-55, Yak-55M and Yak-54 soviet pilots became world champions and won awards in different competitions.

In 1959 the plant became to specialize in production of subsonic anti-ship missiles of type P-15, and from 1980 – in production of supersonic missiles of type 3M-80 of DB «Raduga», Dubna. The missiles are made for attack surface vessels and transports at conditions of modern fire and radioelectronic counterforces. 3M-80 and its modifications are the most perfect means of anti-ship weapon, which exceed foreign analogues in combat effectiveness.

The production of a light 2-motors aircraft AN-14 became a new push for technological development. Its production changed the technological progress a lot and demanded mastering of new technologies.

«Progress» became famous when it started production of first soviet war helicopters of the company Mil – Mi-24 and its modifications (1970-1990). Totally, the plant produced approximately 2200 aircrafts. Mi-24 was a main war helicopter of soviet army, and now it is a main war helicopter of Russian army.  With the help of Mi-34 the plant opened a new page in its history – helicopter building. In 1991 the production of war helicopter Ka-50 was started. Now the plant is producing its latest modification – Ka-52. The brilliant work of personnel was marked by government awards: The Red Banner of Labour (1977) and Order of October Revolution (1986).
